Jana Botkin Art Exhibit

Exeter Gallery to Showcase Artwork by Jana Botkin

The Exeter Courthouse Gallery’s new show will feature the work of Jana Botkin. The opening reception for the exhibition is scheduled for Sunday, November 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. Jana Botkin is a lifelong resident of Tulare County, the daughter of an Ivanhoe farmer. She has an AA in art from College of the Sequoias, along with many years of study and practice in what she terms “The School of Figure It Out.” Her mission is to provide visible reminders that Tulare County is a place to be proud of. Her style is tight realism, and her work is recognized by its detail and accuracy. She has published two books of local cabin communities, The Cabins of Mineral King and The Cabins of Wilsonia, six local coloring books and Mineral King Wildflowers: Common Names. Jana accepts commissions, teaches drawing lessons at Exeter’s Courthouse Gallery, and blogs about her art and life on her website, www.cabinart.net, five days a week. She works from her Three Rivers home studio with three cats that come and go, and has been a full time artist since 1993. Jana and her husband, Michael, have been married for 35 years. Jana’s artistic goal is to show people the beauty of Tulare County and why we feel proud to call it home. She wants her art to ignite the viewers’ appreciation and curiosity about the places she paints and draws. Using pencil and oil paint, Jana is a studio artist who makes art that people can understand. Her style is straight- forward realism with tight de- tail, a somewhat cleaned-up and brightened version of real life. She likes her paintings to look good both up close and from a distance, which is a result of having used nothing but pencil for the first decades of her career. Jana’s favorite place, Mineral King, is a huge influence on her choice of subjects; she believes it is the most beautiful place in our county. The show is scheduled to continue into January. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sun- days, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Exeter Courthouse Gal-lery is located at 125 South “B” Street in Exeter.
