“Look at That Face! – An Exhibit of Portraiture”

The Exeter Courthouse Gallery is pleased to exhibit the exquisite portraiture of three renowned Valley artists, LaVone Sterling, Ellen Milinich and Lynn Hock Napoli. Each of these women are well respected in the art communities throughout the valley and beyond.
LaVone has always had an interest in art and learned at an early age from her aunt who lived next door. Spending afternoons painting and drawing, visiting galleries and museums in the Bay Area with her aunt encouraged her love of art.
She earned both a Batchelor and Master degrees in art which led her to teach painting, drawing and art history at Fresno City College, UC Santa Cruz and Chapman University. LaVone has been featured in many prestigious magazines such as The International Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art, Artist’s Magazine and recently LaVone was featured in the French magazine, Pratique des Arts. LaVone’s painting “Golden Glow” has even been featured on the box lid of the Sennilier landscape pastel set! LaVone is a member of several local and national art organizations and has shown her work in many galleries coast to coast winning many awards. LaVone’s work has been juried into the Visalia Visual Chronicles, a permanent collection of the City of Visalia.
Ellen comes from a self-taught background learning from her artistic family, books and magazines. Her father was an art teacher has said her she talent came because she was “just born with it!”. She too has been featured in many publications and magazines and has shown her work in many competitions and galleries. A nurse by profession, Ellen finds time to work on commissions ivy working from photographs when she can pick up a pencil or charcoal. She looks for good lighting with shadows, an interesting pose with good resolution in the photos to achieve the quality work she achieves. Most of her work goes to the proud owners that contacted her for the commission. Ellen also has a wonderful drawing of Visalia artist Marjorie Brandon accepted in the Visalia Visual Chronicles.
Lynn is a portrait and figure painter who comes from a family of artists. Honored to have her grandmother, Betty McGinnis, spend time training her in fine art and the late Lorraine Walter as a mentor who shared her skills and knowledge with Lynn, has led her on the path to become an accomplished portrait artist. Working in both oils & pastels Lynn works in the traditional Romantic Style. Inspired by the Old Master’s, Lynn’s portraits truly showcase the beauty of her subject’s spirit, a true expression of who that person is comes through in each portrait.
Lynn is currently represented by Studio 74 in Fresno and has her work in the Fresno Art Museum’s newly opened gift store. Lynn and her husband are raisin growers near Fowler where Lynn has her studio in a renovated 1890 wood barn.
We are honored to have the work of these talented women grace the gallery walls. Please join us for their Opening Reception on Sunday February 9, 2019, 2:00 – 4:00 pm. We will be serving light appetizers and refreshments.
The show runs from February 1 through March 31, 2019 during gallery hours.
